A Survivor’s Story by Karla Perez

At the age of 47 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. After a mastectomy on my left breast, not knowing that it was not a lump it was something else. My treatment plan included Chemotherapy and Tamoxifen and then Anastrozole since I’m not a spring chicken anymore.

Cancer did not define me or make me stronger. I was strong before cancer.

I always keep a good attitude since I don’t have time for cancer. I take care of my elder parents in my house, my husband and my daughter. I never let it get me down. I keep it moving.

You can’t let them tell you when you have cancer it’s the end of you, you still have to fight It. The Foundation put me In contact with doctors, insurance people, support groups, fundraisers, provided meals for dinner, gift cards… they even offered to have my house cleaned!!! All of that because of one very special, strong women, Minette Grosso McKenna. Those Angels gave me Hope, Strength and Courage to beat Breast Cancer and to NEVER give up the fight!

They held me up and wouldn’t let me down! I learned from the best, Minette’s Angels.

Minette’s Angels are my family now. It’s my honor, to be part of their family.

I wish I could have had the opportunity to meet Minette. I’m sure she is so proud of each and every one of you.
